Introduction

When I finished high school, I didn’t have a good vocational orientation so I was unsure about what I wanted to study. My father was the one who encouraged me to become a teacher, more specifically an English teacher. His advice was a guide for me and I decided to take his path. I enrolled in the major of Pedagogia de los Idiomas Nacionales y Extranjeros in the Universidad Técnica de Ambato, and my view of pedagogy and learning has increased and transformed immensely since time. Through my studies, I have recognized that teaching was a profession; it is in part a vocation, but mostly, it is a commitment, or even a calling, to help people learn. In one and a half years of studying, I came to terms with language acquisition, educational psychology, classroom management, instructional strategies, plus I gained a greater understanding of the role of the teacher as a mentor, motivator, and lifelong learner.
